Note:This document is intended to be used in conjunction with the Linux Configuration Wizard found on Nagios Exchange.
Attention Savvy Admins: Are you an experienced Nagios admin? Although this Nagios XI Linux Agent only supports RHEL, Fedora, and CentOS at the moment, you can modify what we have to make it work on other Linux distros or *NIX boxes. The XI Linux agent is simply a combination of NRPE, the official Nagios Plugins, a few additional plugins, along with some specific NRPE configuration file options. There is already a separate Nagios XI Linux Agent available for Ubuntu and Debian, as described in another document on the library.
This document describes how to install the Linux monitoring agent on target Ubuntu and Debian servers (including Ubuntu variants such as Kubuntu and Edubuntu). This Ubuntu/Debian family version offers an easy way to install the agent using your distribution's package management system. These steps will likely also work with little to no modification on other related distributions, such as CrunchBang, easypeasy, gNewSense, Xandros, MEPIS, Mint, Knoppix, Baltix, Guadalinux, eBox, Untangle, and Vyatta.
Installing The Nagios Ubuntu and Debian Linux Agent
This document describes how to install the static binary Linux monitoring agent on a Linux machine. The static binary agent provides an easy method of installing a pre-compiled, statically linked set of binaries on one or more Linux machines.
